Hey, You got Your Waggle In My Halo!
1up.com posted a story earlier this week (check it our here) reporting that Bungie President Harold Ryan, in an interview with the Seattle Times, expressed excitement for Microsoft’s recently unveiled motion control peripheral Project Natal. When speaking with the Seattle Times, Harold was quoted saying, “ I absolutely think Reach could be enabled with it.” After E3 we learned that Microsoft and Sony are working on getting into the motion control game that has made the Wii so successful.

It makes sense that Microsoft’s flag ship series would include support for the new peripheral, but is this a good thing for gaming? Motion control seems to be the new thing in the games industry and with the proven success of the Wii we know that it is here to stay. Are motion controls what the core gaming audience is really looking for? Will waving your arm to stick a grenade to your opponents back really make gaming more immersive or will it pull you out of the experience? Halo: Reach is scheduled for release fall of 2010 which puts it in line to premiere along side of Project Natal. Will Bungie prove that motion control can add more to games than waving an arm to substitute a button press? Time will tell, but if any studio is going to prove to the hardcore that motion control isn’t just for casual audiences its Bungie.
