I have been using Mozilla’s Firefox as my web browser since its first official release in 2004. One of the perks to using Firefox is the hundreds of extensions that can be added to the browser to enhance functionality. These extensions can improve productivity, enhance appearances, add security, and some just make my life easier. The following list is my version of a top 10 (even though I have 14) list of extensions that I couldn’t live without.
Brief – Brief a powerful yet simple tool for reading RSS feeds. Subscribe to your favorite websites RSS feeds and get updates on all new content in one place.
Fire.fm – Fire.fm gives you access to the entire music library on Last.Fm. Listen to your favorite artists inside your browser while you are surfing the web. No subscription required, its free.
Forecastfox – Get your local weather forecasts from AccuWeather.com. The add-on can be displayed in any toolbar or status bar making it less obtrusive than other weather update applications.
Ghostery – Find out which websites are watching you. This add-on sends you alerts whenever a site you are visiting has web bugs (or scripts) that are tracking your behavior.
PrintPDF – PrintPDF gives you the option of printing any website to PDF file. Find a solution to a problem, don’t clutter your bookmarks menu, print it to a PDF file instead.
StumbleUpon – Discover web sites based on your interests. A great way to discover new places on the web. It can be addicting, so be careful!
Xmarks – Do you work from multiple computers? Xmarks lets you keep your bookmarks and passwords backed up and synchronized. Install on each computer and never loose a bookmark again.
Twitterfox – Send and receive twitter updates from your status bar.
MinimizeToTray – Have a lot of applications open at the same time? Clear up task bar space by minimizing Firefox to your system tray.
Split Browser – Split the content area of your browser. Wide screen monitors have plenty of room for viewing more than one page at once. Its great when you need to compare multiple websites. As an example, you can watch a video on one side of the screen and check your email on the other.
ScribeFire – This is a full featured blog editor integrated into your web web browser. Its great for taking notes, uploading images, and updating multiple blogs from one place.
Zemanta – This add-on helps find recommendations for stuff you write. It suggests links, tags, videos, and images to spice up blog posts and emails.
Yoono – Do you use multiple social networks and instant messengers? Yoono allows you to manage all these in a browser side bar. Keep up with friends across multiple networks, share links, and update your status all in one place.
Video DownloadHelper – Download and convert web videos from YouTube and similar sites. This is tool can also be used for downloading audio files that are embedded in web pages as well as copying photos from online picture galleries.
